The Punkins

Yesterday was the Iron Chef Pumpkin party. Being a complete dork, I barely took any pictures. But here is the Queensland Blue pumpkin we disemboweled for the house recipes.

Before: Queensland Blue

And after:The innards

The savory competition menu, with all of the varied contributions from our guests, consisted of:

Curried Pumpkin Dip with Pita

Pumpkin Shumai (vegetarian and traditional) with Ponzu, Soy Sauce and Chinese Mustard

Silky Thai Pumpkin Coconut Soup with Lime

Warm Pumpkin Bread with Raisins

Pumpkin Gnocchi with Sage-Brown Butter Sauce

Pumpkin Seafood Curry over Rice with Roasted Pumpkin Seeds

Homemade Ginger-Pumpkin Soda (a.k.a. Root Cellar Beer)

We also had non-pumpkin accompaniments (for the occasional palate-cleanse):

Whole-Berry Cranberry Sauce

Mixed Olives

Assorted Beverages

And for dessert:

Individual Pumpkin Cheesecakes

Sweet Pumpkin Dip with Gingersnaps

Caramel Pecan French Silk Pumpkin Supreme with Homemade Whipped Cream

The entries were rated on a scale from 1-10 in three categories: presentation, daring and taste. The winner (thanks in part to all the extra “daring” points) was…

Brewin' SodaThe Sody-Pop!

Really, everything was delicious, and no one even seemed sick of pumpkin by the end of the evening! Sick of eating, maybe, but not pumpkin-ed out. Cheers!

So, what did the winner get? Leftovers? ; )

  2. fractone Says:

Ooh, no. The winner received an “Iron Chef” DVD box set. Of course, in saying “winner”, I mean the person with the highest score who doesn’t live in this house. We’ve already got lots of “Iron Chef” around here.
